Equinix, Inc., one of the world's largest data center operators, chose El Segundo as home for two of its centers to expand its network in the Los Angeles market where many of the company's Internet content and entertainment customers are located.

In 2008, the Equinix launched its first El Segundo center with a 107,000 square foot facility at 1920 E. Maple Street that is linked with its Downtown Los Angeles operations in order to provide instant access to 85 networks within the company's grid.

Construction is now underway on a new 314,288-square foot project at the southwest corner of Mariposa Avenue and Douglas Street at the former El Segundo Technology Center which the company purchased in 2007 for $49 million.

The data center is being developed within an existing 223,000-square foot building that is being expanded an additional 91,000 square feet. The state-of-the-art facility also includes heavy electrical systems, fiber optic cables, servers, and a new dedicated 56 megawatt substation.
